Square Meal Review of Karpo ?

Named after the Greek goddess of ‘fruits of the earth’, Karpo is a suitably bountiful, all-day affair, with the emphasis on seasonal and sustainable produce – including pickings from a rooftop vegetable garden. Proceedings might open in classic style with a combo of smoked eel and horseradish cream on home-baked Finnish bread or a defiantly rustic pork pâté/terrine, while mains deliver up-front simplicity in the shape of ozone-fresh brill with samphire or a big sirloin steak from the wood-fired oven with bone marrow and roast shallots Also look out for show-stopping desserts such as a crunchy pink-peppercorn meringue. Karpo’s ethos extends to an eco-minded, 100-bin wine list and a funky ‘urban earth’ design, mixing living walls of organic plants, with concrete, metalwork and street art – though its friendly, relaxed vibe feels pleasantly removed from the mayhem of nearby King’s Cross station.

    FoodGoblin - London Dining :: Karpo

    When the storms set in blowing trees on our nation's rails and causing as great a standstill as London Midland strikes, no longer let us wring our hands in greyscale waiting rooms, munching on some toxically processed cling film snack. Head on over the road to a little place I discovered the other week; Karpo, set in the Hotel Megaro. This little nook boasts a shady, subterranean cocktail lounge, the Megaro Bar, rimmed with contemporary low slung sofas, with just the right amount of cosy to go with their cool, and a sophisticated drinks menu. Try the Lavender Hill Mob Fizz for a light spritz of summer’s field freshness, or go heady with a Perry Mason and the Perjured Parrot, made from Four Roses bourbon and pear cider. I drank both and wobbled more than wandered my way up to the main Karpo dining room for some modern British chow...

    Samphire and Salsify :: Karpo, Kings Cross

    Karpo is an odd looking restaurant from the outside; sandwiched between a bureau de change and a Burger King in the hustle and polluted bustle of Kings Cross. It’s vibrantly painted to say the least. The inside however felt much less chaotic and almost tranquil. There was a long bar in the entrance area with seating out the back. We were taken to a table right by a wall covered from floor to ceiling in living foliage (what if a spider lands on my head I thought!) which was very pleasant and most unusual...

    Livelifelovecake :: Breakfast at Karpo

    One Saturday morning I was stopped in my tracks by the cakes in Karpo’s window. I walked back to admire the menu and immediately texted Sam to let him know we were going there for breakfast the following day. We arrived early Sunday morning and sat down underneath the impressive skylight at the back of the restaurant. Surrounding us were impressive walls covered with real luscious plants which are watered through the in-house water system hidden within the complex. Karpo is adjoined to the Megaro Hotel on Euston Road, which looks more like an upmarket hostel from the outside with its quirky multi-coloured exterior. It reminds me of Circus, an amazing hostel I stayed in when in Berlin...
