Breathing life (& a great deal of shocking pink) into premises that were briefly occupied by Bar Prima, Gilt is as gleefully brash as its name suggests, with an extrovert style that embraces tassled lampshades, buttoned leather & some of the tightest, skimpiest waitresses’ uniforms in the City. The L-shaped main bar is bright & bustling, but push through it to reach the plush, clubby ‘halooka’ smoking lounge, where you can hook up to a healthier version of the traditional shisha. The wine list includes a few prestige bottles, with Krug & Cristal for bulging City wallets & a bias towards rum-based mixes on the cocktail list. The food ranges from pastrami sandwiches to pasta & a chip-intensive line-up of mains, including Kobe beef burgers, rib-eye steaks & battered fish.
