Square Meal Review of Gilt London ?

Breathing life (& a great deal of shocking pink) into premises that were briefly occupied by Bar Prima, Gilt is as gleefully brash as its name suggests, with an extrovert style that embraces tassled lampshades, buttoned leather & some of the tightest, skimpiest waitresses’ uniforms in the City. The L-shaped main bar is bright & bustling, but push through it to reach the plush, clubby ‘halooka’ smoking lounge, where you can hook up to a healthier version of the traditional shisha. The wine list includes a few prestige bottles, with Krug & Cristal for bulging City wallets & a bias towards rum-based mixes on the cocktail list. The food ranges from pastrami sandwiches to pasta & a chip-intensive line-up of mains, including Kobe beef burgers, rib-eye steaks & battered fish.

I came here in December for a work Christmas meal and party and was extremely impressed. I loved the decor and was looked after by the staff from planning the party to the actual night itself. The service was brilliant, food was delicious and great value for money considering the portion sizes are very generous and the music on the night was varied to suit all tastes. I have been back for lunch since and enjoyed a similar experience so I highly recommend Gilt London.

I must say I was rather apprehensive when I recommend a restaurant to other people, as I always like to test the water first. I received a membership card with £15 loaded onto it, so I decided to try this place out. I must say that it was absolutely brilliant. It was great from the service to the food, and the list of drinks and wine is extensive but not overbearing. I had the fish and chips and it was brilliant. I have never had fish and chips and a coke that tasted so good, and despite the fact that the meal was quite pricey (£10 for the meal alone), it was well worth it.
