After reacquainting himself with London’s restaurant scene as the driving force behind Brasserie Joël in the Westminster Park Plaza, superstar chef Joël Antunès has moved on to W1. Set in the swish surrounds of the Embassy Mayfair, the restaurant brings some retro Riviera glam to this famous address. Expect lashings of soigné chic – swanky Carrera marble, limestone-tiled floors & Slim Aarons prints, alongside a couple of Tracey Emin neons. Foodwise, Provence is the main inspiration for a menu that runs from salade niçoise, pissaladière & shrimp pipérade via coq au vin, sweetbreads with porcini or roast sea bass with lemon to chocolate liégeois with nougatine, baked Alaska & even a ‘Kit-Kat peanut bar’. The 140-bin wine list focuses on the main European growing regions, & an extended 40-seat terrace provides alfresco opportunities.
