This bijou new family-run eatery in the regenerated Brixton Village market has an impressive dedication to authentic Thai cuisine. A few tables spill on to the car park, but most action takes place in the simple cream dining room, where a small team of chefs work harmoniously in an open-plan kitchen. Much of the usual Thai-restaurant food – satay chicken, tom yum soup – is here, but in faithful renditions of South-East Asian cuisine. The likes of massaman beef curry, or egg-noodle soup, cost around £7, & the only dish to break the £10 barrier is a superb marinated & grilled half-chicken, served with sticky rice & a green papaya salad. Friendly waiters will happily open BYO bottles for you. Kaosan’s reputation is growing, so it’s best to book at busier times.
