Brixton Village’s recent transformation from rotting arcade to foodie Mecca has been a spectacular example of urban regeneration, driven by a wave of quirky, bijou eateries taking advantage of the low rent. Among the best of these is the cosy, no-frills Honest Burgers, housed in the tiny Unit 12 & run by two young chefs with a passion for patties. The quality of Honest’s bespoke beauties – made with 35-day aged beef & served on a sweet brioche bun with triple-cooked, skin-on chips – explains its growing reputation as one the best joints of its kind in town, & the fact that prices peak at just £8 also helps. There are no bookings, but the queues move quickly & BYO is a bonus – although an alcohol licence is apparently on its way.
