Cinnamon buns & smart, spare design are on the menu at the second branch of Miisa Mink’s calming café (the original inhabits Golden Square in Soho). Communal bench seating & a lack of soft furnishings may suggest a lack of comfort, but it’s all in the baking. Those warm, cinnamon-infused goodies with very strong coffee are Nordic’s snack-in-trade at breakfast or in the afternoon, but don’t miss the marbled ‘tiger cake’. Come lunchtime, the bakery’s signature dark rye bread is made into open sandwiches piled with egg & herring, gravadlax or cheese & gherkins; alternatively, try the curious open-top Karelian pie with its smooth rice filling. Given the sky-high quality of the baked goods, it’s a shame that the authentically Nordic juices are bottled rather than freshly squeezed.
