Maki Yaki

Situated on the waterfront, Makiyaki enjoys its status as Excel’s best-kept gastronomic secret. Run by Koreans, this quiet, friendly & modest Japanese eatery is renowned for its myriad & decidedly ‘wacky’ maki rolls including the ‘baby dynamite’ & the ‘lion king’. Put together a combination dinner with several different varieties, plus miso soup & salad. Otherwise, the short menu makes fairly traditional reading: bowls of soup noodles, tempura & variations on the teriyaki theme are on hand for those who don’t fancy the raw stuff. To drink, Asahi beer or something from the saké list should go down well. Makiyaki is only open in the evenings during the week, but residents in the surrounding apartment blocks & hotels should certainly take advantage of it as a takeaway option.
