What was Portobello Bridge/Golborne House has been spruced up, ‘groovified’ & re-branded as the Earl of Portobello. Sitting in the shadow of the iconic Trellick Tower, it shows off its intent with washed brick, chesterfields & flea-market finds – moving from family-friendly daytime hangout to soul/funk DJ bar come nightfall. To drink, classic cocktails (mai tai, whiskey sour, bramble, dark & stormy) are bolstered by a house mix called ‘I love Jammy Dodgers’ (a muddle of white rum, strawberry jam, orange liqueur, lemon, lime & mint). There are approachable wines & beers too, plus a menu of upmarket pubby staples: deep-fried calamari, grilled polenta triangles, pan-fried scallops with black pudding & pea purée, sausage & mash, burgers & BLTs, followed by bread & butter pudding with a glass of Stump Jump dessert wine to finish.
