Square Meal Review of The Vine ?

Now part of a 15-strong group that includes the Old Dairy in Crouch End, the Prince Bonaparte, Notting Hill & the North London Tavern, Kilburn, this formerly moribund boozer has morphed into a new foodie pub befitting Kentish Town’s upward trajectory. Pared-back Edwardian nouveau & a large terrace set the scene for a menu of Anglo-Italian food ranging from little cicchetti plates of
cured meats, salt cod croquettes, meatballs, arancini, fritto misto & clams with aïoli to more substantial dishes including walnut, basil & Gorgonzola gnocchi, braised pig’s cheeks with ‘nduja & peas or yellowfin tuna with peperonata, spinach & new potatoes, plus a selection of classic puds. An Italian-led wine list offers 14 sub-£20 bottles, while Doom Bar & St Austell Proper Job are typical names on the ale pumps.

We went on a Saturday night. There were two large parties there which the staff used as an excuse for our poor service. The place we were sitting was cold. The service was slow and the Food was very mediocre. The starters were tiny portions, no bread served. Wine was cheap tasting and the pasta one of my friends ate looked inedible. The fish was overcooked. The chips looked frozen type not “hand cut”. I think we would have eaten better in a little chef!! The staff apologised but all in all a bad experience. I won't be going there again nor any of our group. Poor show Vine!
