The second branch of Morgan M is exactly how French restaurants should be: elegant, relaxed & free from starchiness. A stone’s throw from Smithfield, it’s a romantic prospect with pale-wood floors & subtle cream/green colours, plus a more informal dining area downstairs. Morgan Meunier’s food gives classic cuisine a contemporary spin – as in crayfish & lobster cannelloni with shellfish cappuccino, or roast partridge with chicory tarte Tatin. There’s also a six-course seasonal tasting spread, & Meunier’s veggie-friendly sensibilities extend to a separate ‘garden’ menu. The food is backed by a refreshingly compact wine list, while slick, suited & booted staff provide oh-so-Gallic service. Morgan M’s loyal Islington fans may have to get used to heading east, however, given that the original venue’s opening hours have been cut to just three evenings a week.
Morgan is one of London’s culinary stars. Before opening Morgan M Barbican and Morgan M Liverpool Road, which was graced with numerous awards including Harden’s “Best French Restaurant”, Morgan had worked as head chef at a number of award winning restaurants including ‘The Admiralty’ Restaurant at Somerset House and Michelin-starred restaurants such as ‘Monsieur Max’ in London and ‘Les Pres d’Eugenie’ in the South of France. Are you the restaurant owner?
