A Polynesian-inspired ‘port of pleasure’ for good-timing Fulhamites, Kona Kai combines beach-shack interiors with sunshine party tunes, fruity cocktails & some suitably exotic food. The drinks list includes a smattering of New World wines, but the real treats are jugs of punch & classic ‘tikis’ such as mai-tai, dark & stormy & hurricane season (a blitzkrieg of rum, vodka, Amaretto & passion fruit) – not forgetting house mixes including muu-muu (a delicate combo of white rum, lychees & rose syrup). If something more solid is required, the menu promises a mix of global flavours & bar classics ranging from rice-paper spring rolls & Thai beef salad to Camembert fondue & chicken burgers. To finish, it has to be tropical fruit salad with mango coulis.
