Enter this highly traditional Punjabi restaurant, hidden away on an exclusive Knightsbridge backstreet, & you’ll find an Aladdin’s cave jam-packed with curios – from elaborately painted vases & gold-plated water heaters to burnished copper walls hung with Asian artwork. It’s a highly personalised collection, compiled by the owner during the restaurant’s 40-year tenure. The menu has been carefully curated, too, offering feasts including dumm pukht (a whole stuffed lamb, requiring 24 hours’ notice), alongside everyday dishes such as a lovingly rendered version of saag gosht with a garlicky spinach sauce. There are also plenty of chef’s specials, served with platters of headily spiced rice, & even some house desserts. The wine list pushes the envelope, with an emphasis on fine names & seven organic pours from the Levin winery.
