In times gone by, this was an old booking office where travellers could purchase train tickets to Market Harborough and beyond; these days, it dispenses Champagne cocktails and rock oysters. Either way, it's easy to be impressed by the vast space within the St Pancras Renaissance hotel with its almost-ecclesiastical arched windows and polished wood-panelled corners – all sympathetically offset with angular, modernist furniture. Cocktails wholeheartedly play to the 19th-century theme (Charles Dickens memorial punch anyone?), although no one wastes time scrutinising the authenticity of mixes such as Victorian Manhattan – sweet vermouth with bourbon, Angostura bitters, Curaçao and lemon zest. Harviestoun's Bitter & Twisted stands out among a crop of thoughtfully selected but overpriced beers served in pewter mugs, while sustaining bar snacks include the likes of haggis bonbons, whitebait and pigs in blankets.
