Square Meal Review of Aurelia ?

Arjun Waney & co (of Roka, Zuma & La Petite Maison fame) have expanded their gastro-empire with the launch of Aurelia in the premises formerly occupied by Mulligan’s. Ex-Roka chef Rosie Yeats-Greenslade has been drafted in to run the kitchen, & her menu meanders along the ancient Via Aurelia, working its way from Rome to Valencia – taking in Tuscany, Liguria, the Languedoc & Catalonia en route. Enjoy breakfast & light meals in the gregarious ground-floor space – all toffee-coloured banquettes & shiny surfaces – or descend to the crammed-in basement dining room for something more formal. Most feel the sharing concept is ‘overdone’ or inappropriate, although the kitchen knocks out a colourful mélange of sun-drenched Mediterranean flavours, such as lobster salad with shaved fennel & preserved lemon, pumpkin ravioli with sage & amaretti, or salt-marsh lamb from the rotisserie with anchovies & salmoriglio sauce, plus charcuterie & cheese boards. ‘Lacklustre’, forgetful service still needs to find its feet.

very nice location, just behind old bond st, my friend and i had drinks at the bar first, then were shown downstairs to the other part of the restaurant, defo the place to be seen, nice layout with open kitchen, so you can see chefs at work. this is a sharing concept like la petit masion, we shared tuna tatar and calamari, both nice although calamari had paprika infused into, which was a bit too overpowering for it, tuna was great, second course dauphouis was the best i have had anywhere, steak was lovley as was dover sole, pasta with beef ragu was nothing special, chocolate dessert was yummy. overall very nice and this is the place to be seen as we saw from the clientel, princess beatrice rocked up as we were finishing the dessert. One negative for me personally it was very very noisy, so having a conversation is tricky at times, but liked it overall, not quite as la petit's level, but judging by it being filled to the rafters i dont think they need to worry!! will be going back.

Just had very good meal at Aurelia. We did each have desert and the recommended pudding wine. The bill was £172 for two, so woud like to know know how the average price on your website came to £48 pp?

Not my favourite restaurant of the zuma, la petite maison, roka group.

Food good, went on the first few nights and it probably needs time to get perfect.

Service when I went was a bit of a let down. Wrong orders, late delivery, poor understanding of menu.

I will give it a second go however.

Give it a few weeks to settle down. The kitchen is fully functioning with the result that the food was terrific and once the service standards match this will become another stellar restaurant. It's a really stylish restaurant and should match the success of the group's Le Petite Maison.
I found the sharing concept overdone and unnecessary. Especially, when the two mains of scallops and leg of lamb were placed on the table at the same time. The lamb which was beautifully cooked came with no accompaniment whatsoever!
The service issues ranged from wine not arriving until waiter, sommelier and Maitre D had been chased and starters served. Despite the supposed sharing concept waiters constantly interrupted to remove serving plates.
It is important to choose which atmosphere you prefer: the basement, which is buzzy and comes with table cloths or the ground floor which is a nice room but less atmospheric with marble topped tables.
Despite the shocking service this should become a great venue.

went on Friday nite, got the seats upstairs , so cold in there. The menu was lots of Italian influence than anyother countries. Expensive Prosecco by glassses eventhough the cheapest one! not even a champaign. I couldn't remember the price. The starters were good, lovely chix liver parfiat, parma ham quality wasn't that impressed. the burrata was out of the world, the best. But went downhill when the crab pasta arrived, store bought crab meat taste. I bet they forgot to put the chiili in as well as i couldn't taste of see any hint of the heat at all. Lamb and veal was good but not exceptional as i expected. The service was good. The manager kept checking on us during the times. Before we left , we took a look at the dinning room downstairs and felt gutted that we were left to have a meal in cold all the time upstairs. Down there was open kitchen , warm and looked so lovely. Don't understand why they didn't seat us there as it was half empty. The bill was expensive as i expected but the experience was below par.
