The owners of The Westbury have launched an all-day brasserie in the premises previously occupied by Connolly’s world-renowned leather shop, right next to the hotel itself. The Gallery’s kitchen is fronted by head chef Brian Fantoni, formerly of Claridge’s, & the menu offers an accessible run through informal European dishes in the modern vein, such as pork-&-pistachio terrine with Italian lardo & mustard fruits, John Dory with spelt-wheat salad & tomato sauce vierge, & slow-cooked brisket of veal with baby artichokes, fresh peas, celery & lemon confit. Decor-wise, expect Italian luxe with a touch of the 18th century: mirrored walls, gold chandeliers, velvet chairs & an intricate mosaic floor. It’s not the cheapest place around, but it’s a useful & straightforward spot for doing smart business, backed up by smooth service.
