The Fish Place

The riverside view from the dining room here is stunning – even though the restaurant itself is a tad dull to look at. Fish Place is part of the grand redevelopment of Battersea’s riverbank. Its interior features a full-height glass wall & some beautiful marble finishes: perhaps it will gain more character with age. Cooking is ambitious: although there’s fish & chips on Friday, this is somewhere to explore piscatorial possibilities. Grilled fillet of turbot comes on a crisp rösti with pea purée; scallops are combined with sautéed girolles & chorizo, finished with an intense chicken jus. Surprisingly, there are meat dishes too, including a lovely pink rump of lamb. With such cooking, Fish Place has the potential to become a destination restaurant. A shame it’s so difficult to get to.
