The Georgian

A cross between a tearoom & a restaurant from the Caucasus, The Georgian contains much to admire. The jolly painted chairs & scrubbed tables could be from a 1940s film set, & the rib-sticking cakes & pastries served during the day have local mums & business folk finding any excuse to drop by. On sunny days, such is the venue’s popularity that tables spread over the wide pavement outside. There’s plenty of stodge on the evening menu. The list encompasses old-style eastern European cooking, from borscht onwards, so some diners wishing to retain their waistlines choose the lighter more western dishes offered in tandem. Trenchermen, however, brave the specials board, where there’s a daily changing choice of hearty, mostly vegetarian dishes that heavily involve stuffed dumplings & the like.
