You’ll need to join or dangle a member from your wrist if you fancy inveigling yourself into Hugh Heffner’s hutch, back in London after a 30-year hiatus. Pull up a stool at Salvatore’s (as in Calabrese) – a darkly handsome, Sinatra-style hangout circa Strangers in the Night. Stellar cocktails such as Tennessee squirrel, salty martini & garlic affair (Courvoisier, apricot brandy lemon juice & garlic-infused ginger beer mule) aren’t exactly cheap, but having a Campari nobile (a recipe that won Calabrese ‘Bartender of the Year’ in 1993) mixed by the man himself is the cocktail equivalent of an audience with the Pope. If money’s no object, why not order a couple of Sazerac specials built on bourbon bottled in 1805, from a library of ultra-rare spirits displayed as art? The damage? £4,000 the pair!
