Cool Manhattan in old-school Mayfair, 34 is rich, elegant, masculine and suave – just like most of its deep-pocketed patrons. Its calling card is beefy protein – everything from custom-built burgers with dill relish to the finest slabs of USDA rib-eye, painfully expensive Australian Wagyu, dry-aged Scottish bone-in sirloin and more, all backed by a supporting cast of spatchcock chicken, salt-marsh lamb and Dover sole. Anyone who has frequented 34's stable-mates from the Caprice Holdings group will immediately recognise the remainder of a sprawling menu sans frontières – tantalisingly aromatic grilled octopus with chorizo, appealing tortellini primavera, duck and pomelo salad with a ginger-spiked dressing, charcuterie, and ‘exquisite' little cinnamon doughnuts with chocolate sauce. Service is certainly ‘gentlemanly' if not always razor-sharp, but the Old World wine list caps a ‘great experience' with excellent value and quality across the board – note the choice by the carafe.
