From the duo behind the pop-up Pavilion Café in Hackney, this bright new eatery is aimed squarely at Borough Market’s foodie throngs. A bold, black communal table is at the heart of the venue, which features scruffy yellow brick walls & great views of the bustle outside. On offer is a tidy selection of regularly changing dishes & the kitchen shows plenty of style when it comes to cooking & presentation, from game terrine with piccalilli or buttermilk-fried sprats with tartare sauce to grilled mackerel with heritage tomato & fennel salad or a flavoursome beef rump with baked onions, rainbow chard & broad beans. The choice of puds is limited to cheese, ice creams & sorbets (the Russet apple version is terrific), & the drinks list runs from bespoke beers & ciders to an oddball selection of wines including a Transylvanian Pinot Noir & a Chardonnay from – where else? – Essex.

Samphire and Salsify :: Elliot’s Cafe
There was a bar with stool seats by the entrance and then a small dining area out the back. Exposed brick walls made for a shabby yet stylish appearance and the place had a seriously buzzy atmosphere. It’s all very ‘organic wines’ this and ‘homemade lemonade’ that – and they don’t sell Coke, it’s that kind of place...

Burger Addict - Worldwide Burger Reviews :: Elliot
For some time now the weekday lunchtime only Elliot's cheeseburger has been universally regarded as one of the best London has to offer - for some reason, mostly laziness, I have not reviewed it until now, after my third burger from them...

FoodiesOnTheProwl FoodiesOnTheProwl :: Elliot’s Cafe, Jan 2013
New year, new chance to try out the cooking at Elliot’s Cafe. For those looking for a casual dining experience, but not willing to concede on quality of cooking and ingredients Elliot’s Cafe is the place to go. We tend to go to Elliot’s Cafe during weekends, usually on Sunday’s when the restaurant offers a fixed Sunday lunch menu of some of their best dishes (£25 pp). This time was no different...

Burgaffair :: Elliot’s Cafe
Elliot’s at Borough Market was one we have been looking forward to for a while as we had plenty of recommendations to go here, but they selfishly only serve the burger at lunch times. Why they wouldn’t base their schedule around US, we honestly don’t know. Needless to say we cleared our schedules and headed over. Its great too, just one burger on the menu, no worries about options, no food envy at all...

FoodiesOnTheProwl FoodiesOnTheProwl :: Elliot’s cafe (Borough market), Sept 2012
We’ve been to Elliot’s cafe on several occasions and never has it disappointed. It was time again to see how they faired after not having visited them for a few months. As always it turned out to be excellent!...

Burgerac :: Elliot
£12.50 with fried potato. I took a day off work a few weeks ago to do some pre-wedding chores. And meet a friend at Elliot's for a burger...I've heard good things about the burger at Elliot's since it opened last year. As it's based on the edge of Borough Market and only serves burgers on weekday lunchtimes, it's not the most convenient place for me to check out - but taking a day off to find the perfect shoes to get married in provided a sneaky opportunity for me and a buddy to pop in for lunch...

TwelvePointFivePercent :: Elliot
Penicillin. Post-It Notes. The Negroni Sbagliato. Me. All wonderful, all indispensable to modern life (to anyone who might beg to differ about the cocktail, I say: Try one) and all of us happy accidents. Fleming's slovenly lab hygiene, Spencer Silver's failed glue, a barman not knowing his Prosecco from his gin and the power cuts of September 1975 all resulted in something quite unplanned but with hindsight, extremely welcome.A few weeks ago I had a very happy accident of my own, when my friend Gay James (as distinct from Straight James, Posh James, Fat James or Baby James) managed to get off the bus a few stops too early for our assigned meeting place and called to say that he was in Borough, not Bermondsey, and lost.It was easier to go to him than to try to direct him to me, so we found ourselves on Borough High Street, late-ish at night and with no idea where to eat. I figured that if we wandered towards Borough Market, somewhere would still be open; somewhere was, and it was Elliot's, which turned out to be fabulous...
