Following a two-year stint at this revamped dining room within The May Fair Hotel, glammed-up celeb chef Silvena Rowe has stepped down to focus on other projects (including her own mini-chain of Ottoman-style cafés) – but Quince’s open-plan kitchen carries on regardless. To start, grazing plates of Turkish-accented food arrive prettily presented and alluringly spiced – perhaps a whip of smoky aubergine and tahini topped with sticky pomegranate or stubby borek ‘bites’ filled with slow-cooked lamb and spinach. As for bigger items, expect anything from Ottoman-spiced lamb cutlets with black truffle and za’atar to whole grilled sea bass with oregano and fennel tzatziki. The restaurant has its own street entrance through a vestibule heady with the scent of fresh quinces; once inside, red velvet banquettes, silk wall coverings, antique mirrors and acres of tiling set a sultry, tactile vibe – with prices pitched accordingly.
