Eighty-Six is a playful mix of kooky vibes & kitsch, from the stylised pictures of latex-clad women in the ground-floor bar to the glamorous dining room, whose gilded walls are given over to curious paintings of tweed-clad animals. By contrast, the kitchen (now under the direction of ex-Koffmann's chef Simon Levy) takes its duties seriously, & the luxurious menu makes for an enticing read. Seasonal European food is the style, with a bias towards French dishes such as pan-seared foie gras with apple galette & Sauternes, or wild sea bass with confit duck, lentils & scratchings. For dessert, the brandy apple tart with toffee apples & vanilla anglaise is a must if space allows. Despite their bouncer-style earpieces, staff are a friendly crew, although service can lapse.
