Square Meal Review of Eighty-Six ?

Eighty-Six is a playful mix of kooky vibes & kitsch, from the stylised pictures of latex-clad women in the ground-floor bar to the glamorous dining room, whose gilded walls are given over to curious paintings of tweed-clad animals. By contrast, the kitchen (now under the direction of ex-Koffmann's chef Simon Levy) takes its duties seriously, & the luxurious menu makes for an enticing read. Seasonal European food is the style, with a bias towards French dishes such as pan-seared foie gras with apple galette & Sauternes, or wild sea bass with confit duck, lentils & scratchings. For dessert, the brandy apple tart with toffee apples & vanilla anglaise is a must if space allows. Despite their bouncer-style earpieces, staff are a friendly crew, although service can lapse.

I have been going to Eighty Six regularly since it opened last November. Not only is it beautifully designed, giving you a real sense of being in a top end venue, but the staff are incredible; friendly, informative and incredibly helpful. The bar is by far the top choice amongst my friends for after work drinks, as it has a wonderfully vibrant atmosphere, without ever being too crowded or boisterous. They have various spaces available for private hire, making it the ideal venue for birthdays, engagement drinks, and private dinners, and the main restaurant is just superb. You will not find better food in the area by a long way!! Just been in to try the food since the new chef started, and cannot recommend it more. Scallop and pork belly served with squid ink to start, followed by sea bass served with confit of duck. Literally sublime. To top it off I have been informed that they are offering a new early week prix fixe menu, for just £19 for two course and £23 for three, which given the standard of food just simply HAS to be tried.

Went last Friday, just the place that Chelsea has looking needing. The place was buzzing with great looking people especially in the bar. I ate in the restaurant with my wife and ate some of the best food I've ever had in Chelsea. Service was great very relaxed and efficent. Defiantly recommend.

Beautiful restaurant, good food, great wine list, possibly the worst service I have ever experienced. I had a business dinner there last week and they gave us a trainee waitress without supervision. I called afterward to inform them about the problem and no one bothered to call me back. That says it all.
