This pint-sized, one-of-a-kind boozer feels even smaller by virtue of the newspaper clippings, cartoons, playing cards, ice-skates & horseshoes that are crowded onto its walls. What’s more, the split-level bar means those who enter can experience the curious Alice in Wonderland sensation of becoming giant-sized as they order real ale from staff in the pit below. However, once you’ve descended the narrow staircase to the lower snug, you’re back down to normal proportions. Here, rousing show tunes accompany a medley of solid pub grub staples such as shepherd’s pie with homemade gravy. This being Knightsbridge, there’s bound to be a sprinkling of local stardust– Jeremy Irons & Chris Evans are regulars. Note that the landlord (a brassy ex-guardsman) is anti-mobiles; those using them – celebs or otherwise – are likely to be summarily ejected.
