Chatsworth Kitchen, a sweet little ‘bio café’ with an emphasis on home-style cooking, is a welcome new arrival near Homerton Hospital. It has started slowly (no website, no phone number, no fanfare of publicity) as the owners tentatively get to know their market. All-day breakfasts at the weekends seem to be on the right tack. During the week when the place opens evenings only, you can expect a short blackboard menu that’s a happy mix of British comfort food & sunny Mediterranean fare with a dash of Elizabeth David. Aubergine parmigiana, roast chicken with couscous & petit salé aux lentilles, followed by fruit cobbler or raspberry & peach trifle, are more ‘supper with friends’ than ‘dinner party’ (which is a good thing). Simple wooden tables & a BYO policy create an informal air.
