Highbury residents are pleased as punch with this accomplished little local. It’s an unassuming space of muted colours & simple wooden chairs, but Juniper’s experienced chef-patron saves the sparkle for the menu. The slant is mod Euro, & though the reliable favourites are here, they’ve often got something extra – so duck liver parfait comes with sage & orange butter, smoked duck & pickled shallot, & rabbit loin is wrapped in bacon & served with leeks, spinach & a wild garlic & mushroom mousse. Cheese comes from La Fromagerie just down the road, while fish is bought daily, much of it to appear as specials ‘designed to sell out’ (phone ahead to place your order). The wine list is far from dull, service is friendly & kids can tuck into two courses & a drink for a fiver.
