With its snazzy tables, brown-leather barstools, & spritzer-sipping, sharp-suited customers, L’Anima’s overtly swish bar feels like Italy on a hot summer’s day. There are plenty of pre-dinner cocktail tempters on offer, including a host of bellinis & some fruity, Italian-themed mixes – although wine buffs might prefer to browse the extended list, which now features a dozen or so French regional names alongside the entrenched Italians. Around 15 are available by the glass or 500ml carafe, with some seriously impressive producers such as Alois Lageder & Franz Haas stealing the show. Even if the starry restaurant is full, the entire menu is still offered in the bar – so you don’t need to miss out on trademark Francesco Mazzei dishes such as octopus a la plancha with cannellini beans & ricotta.
