Rhodes Patron Bar at The Cumberland

‘Tequila time’ puts on its serious face at the Cumberland’s sleek bar, which has allegiances to both the adjoining Rhodes Brasserie & the Patrón liquor brand. The hangar-like feel of the hotel’s art-strewn public spaces is softened a little at the backlit bar, where hand-blown bottles containing the precious & extravagantly priced spirit are on display (note the über-exclusive, full-strength Gran Burdeos). Cocktails include a maple margarita using Patrón Silver, maple syrup, sours & orange liqueur Citrónge, while the mai tai matches the brand’s Pyrat XO rum with Bacardi, Amaretto, pineapple purée & Champagne. Seasonal cocktails & straight shots complete the list, but while the spirits & mixes are premium, their accompanying notes can lack a bit of class – a cosmopolitan is billed as ‘one of the ladies’ favourites’.
