Geronimo Inns’ first excursion into the Square Mile occupies what was the Broadgate Exchange on Bishopsgate, & has been designed in the group’s now-familiar brand of ‘country kitchen meets industrial chic’. The menu will tout ‘British pub grub for City gents’, which means anything from hot-smoked pigeon & quince salad with lentil & walnut dressing to skate with brown shrimps & capers or salt beef with horseradish dumplings – not forgetting crumpets & ‘full City’ fry-ups for breakfast. Elsewhere, ‘plats rapide’ (two or three courses served together on one plate) are tailored for those on a tight lunchtime schedule, while drinkers can pick from a quartet of real ales or a 48-bin wine list chosen by John Clevely MW. Several areas are partitioned off for private bashes, & there’s a secluded alfresco terrace protected from the City hubbub by bamboo & rosemary hedges.
