‘Mostly authentic, always playful’ reads a note on the menu at this vibrant bar/café attached to the Young Vic, a nod to the links between the kitchen & the productions on show. During the run of two French plays, for example, wines from the Rhône & Mâcon were the glasses du jour; likewise, dishes inspired by modern Parisian bistros took to the stage (roast baby chicken with za’atar, cumin & couscous). Otherwise, the menu brings together inventive, please-all burgers, global bar bites & more besides. The wine list also deserves applause for its commitment to smaller producers & lesser-known grape varieties. On fine days, it’s worth staking out the upstairs mezzanine & terrace.
