Square Meal Review of Geales ?

Geales’ pitch on Chelsea Green means that the clientele at this upper-crust neighbourhood chippie with knobs on tend to be très swish indeed. Its chic & cosy interior alludes to the maritime theme with porthole windows in the doors, navy-&-white checked tablecloths & framed photos of fishermen & their ships. Meanwhile, its ample menu covers all bases, from ‘superb’ dressed Cornish crab & ‘bouncy’ deep-fried calamari to ‘scrumptious’ lobster spaghetti – although the standout signature plateful has to be a thick fillet of cod encased in crisp, golden batter (a dish that ‘really means business’). Desserts such as apple & blackberry crumble can misfire, but locals are adamant: Geales delivers ‘good fresh fish at a sensible price’, & ‘makes for a perfect night out’. Related to the original in Notting Hill.

After having an excellent lunch at Geale's in Notting Hill, we booked dinner here and were not disappointed. For fish lovers, Geale's on Chelsea Green makes for a perfect night out – the location is lovely and quiet, the decor in the restaurant is sleek but cosy. We ate very well – the mussels and dressed Cornish crab were superb, as was the Lobster Spaghetti, and the mash was scrumptious. The atmosphere at night was great. If you are looking for something between Scott's in Mayfair and Fish Club, Geale's is the answer. Good fresh fish at a sensible price.

Very pleasant evening at new Geales outpost. Much warmer atmosphere than when Tom Aikens had the place. It was packed with well heeled locals the night we were there, no surprise given the quality of the food and the warmth of the welcome. Good, simple fare. Lobster spaghetti was quite heavenly.
