Richmond needs another Indian restaurant like Imelda Marcos needs new shoes, but this one is a little different. Aangan has an emphasis on tapas-style starters & grazing dishes rather than the usual curry-house classics. It’s a becoming spot, with crisp linen tablecloths, plenty of space, friendly waiting staff & a vibrant buzz. So far, the local crowd seem to be liking what they’re finding. Time will tell whether they continue to come here once the novelty of garlic scallops, chatpata wings & mussels cooked with white wine & Indian spices wears off. The kitchen does cater for more conservative diners, offering chicken tikka masala & rogan josh, but it’s worth trying the South Indian dishes of Goan fish curry or peppery chicken Chettinad.
