Mixing the trendy vibe of Soho’s new-wave Italians with smart Mayfair chic was always going to be a winning formula, & Tempo’s kitchen is cooking with a consistency to match the concept. Snacky cichetti feel absolutely right among its blue-velvet seating & glass-topped tables: witness morsels of shrimp & samphire, burrata with roasted pepper or grilled octopus with pomegranate salad perched on char-grilled ciabatta. Japanese chef Yoshi Yamada also brings his knifework to bear on signature carpaccios of wild salmon pepped up with orange, or tuna loin with fennel & dill; elsewhere, baby chicken is rubbed with ’nduja sausage for a spicy finish, & the widely acclaimed lemon tart really is that good. The owner’s natural charm wins everyone over, & the rococo-styled bar upstairs is irresistible – no wonder the place attracts plaudits.
