Building on the success of his eponymous Chelsea restaurant, Tom Aikens also helms two branches of the brasserie-style Tom’s Kitchen. Here at historic Somerset House, the menu gives native seasonal produce a productive spin, whether it’s meaty chunks of ham hock with poached egg, frisée & grain-mustard dressing, an autumnal assemblage of baked cod with sage, butternut squash purée & pine nuts, or richly intense casseroled venison with cranberries. Signature truffle chips with Parmesan ramp up the comfort factor, while desserts such as treacle tart aim for sweet-toothed satisfaction. All is bustling when weekend brunch comes around (booking recommended), although the high-ceilinged, minimalist dining rooms can feel somewhat sterile when it’s quiet. Tom’s Deli next door offers something more informal, while Tom’s Terrace is a pleasant alfresco choice for the summer months.
