It may be stowed away in the bowels of The Berkeley hotel, but Pierre Koffmann's split-level dining room is also sufficiently warm-hearted to suggest a visit to the great chef's own home. The tablecloths are stiffly starched, but ‘charming' staff certainly aren't – their friendly demeanour coaxing diners to sit back and relax. Appropriately, Koffmann's wistful but well-aged take on earthy French cuisine also greets you like an old friend: rolled and crumbed skate topped with a potato galette, ‘one of the best roast chickens in town', glazed lemon tart and, of course, the signature pig's trotter – a glossy, glazed icon stuffed with morels and sweetbreads. Load up the bill with an aperitif (Floc de Gascogne offers a taste of Koffmann's home region); otherwise, keep it tight with the ‘good-value' set lunch and a carafe of wine – ‘no frills, no fuss, just faultless cooking'.

vialaporte :: Koffmann’s // Knightsbridge // London
Sitting alongside Marcus Wareing’s **2 star restaurant in the Berkeley Hotel is Pierre Koffmann’s self-titled French brasserie. Though don’t be fooled into thinking that this modest restaurant will be a disappointment beside its illustrious neighbour. Koffmann is a chef who knows a thing or two about elevating bistro food up to the highest level...

FoodiesOnTheProwl FoodiesOnTheProwl :: Koffman’s, Dec 2012
After having visited Koffman’s before last year (see post) and feeling very satisfied with the meal, I was keen to try it again this winter. The food at Koffman’s is best described as ‘deluxe food porn’ or ‘posh comfort food’ . The flavours are so soulful, the cooking so skillful and the setting so posh, that it just leaves the visitor with that moorish feeling...

Nordic Nibbler :: Koffmann
It's not often you get the chance to eat at the restaurant of a genuine culinary legend, but chef Pierre Koffmann is just that. His first restaurant, La Tante Claire, opened in Chelsea in 1977 and went on to gain three Michelin stars, which it held for 15 years until it moved location to the Berkeley Hotel in Knightsbridge. There the restaurant continued until 2003 when Koffmann retired from cooking (or so he thought). The chefs that have trained under Koffmann read like a who's who of Britain's Michelin hall of fame: Marco Pierre White, Gordon Ramsay, Marcus Wareing, Eric Chavot, and Tom Kitchin. So it was with a huge amount of anticipation that Mrs. Nibbler and I went for dinner at Pierre Koffmann's eponymously titled restaurant...
