Square Meal Review of Coquine ?

‘Ooh la la!’ indeed. Coquine’s modish baroque chairs & ceramic blue-tiled walls – reclaimed from
a London Underground refurb – reflect the affluence of those who can afford the cocktails, vintage wines or £100 bottles of Champagne racked up behind the bar of this funky & exclusive VIP lounge. Food is mostly limited to light bites, with a ‘raw’ bar serving oysters, tuna tartare & a small selection of sushi, but those who aren’t afraid of carbs can also gorge themselves on bowls of fries, seafood risotto or steak burgers with Emmental cheese. Coquine (meaning ‘mischievous’ or ‘naughty’ in French) is set across two floors, & its moody basement den is packed at weekends with members of Kensington’s smart set taking advantage of the DJ booth & late-night dancing opportunities.

Went to this place on Saturday nitght. Having read the reviews we did not know what to expect especially that we were coming down from North London. The place looked very very nice. It was very busy so we were offered to wait at the lounge downstairs. We went throught our Groupon offer of two proseccos but chose to carry on with some cocktails which were not included in the offer. Having waited for 25 minutes we were then shown to our table. We shared the starters and waitied for our mains. I must say, the steak was cooked properly and the missus liked the sea bass which was a major relief. Having enjoyed the food, we decided to stay for more cocktails. The only drawback was that I had to leave the car and took a black cab home which costed me more that the entire amazing experience. I highly recommend this place. Although not flawless, the service was sincere and enthusiastic. However, if you are looking for Michelin star food and experience, I would recommend to pay full price and try the West End usual suspects. But I know now where I will be holding my 30th bash!

Coquine is suffering primarily from schizophrenia: it can't quite decide if it's a trendy bar or fancy restaurant. The decor is all turquoise velour banquettes and oversized lampshades, very restaurant 2012, but with a small bar half way down the room. We were greeted by a doorman complete with bluetooth headpiece, but he also turned out to be our waiter (what the other waiters were doing is a mystery). The food comes on pretty, petite, modern, oblong china plates but isn't up to nouveau standards. We shared a mezze starter which was actually fine, with good hummous and tahini, although small; my lamb was edible although somewhat incinerated; and whilst the New York cheesecake was OK, I couldn't help wonder if someone's Mum had been to Iceland. We didn't suffer the service porblems of which others complain (when my friend told them the chocolate “fondant” was cooked solid, another goo-ier version was produced without fuss). We were on a voucher so at £29 for 3 courses plus glass of prosecco for 2 people it was very cheap but if we had paid the full price, I would have been disappointed. With stiff competition from the likes of nearby Capote y Toros, Coquine would be better off ditching the food aspirations altogether and focussing on becoming a bar to rival next door's Eclipse at which it could do quite well.

Visited Coquine last night and had the worst experience in every way imaginable. RIght from the booking of the table (they had wrong day and time), service was poor to say the least. This, we could have lived with but the accumulation of mistakes from the point of ordering the drinks was an abundance of inconsistancies and just pure lack of customer service – not what you would expect for a restaurant in South Ken.
Starters were inconsistant (same dish but some with sauces, some without). There was a complete lack of knowledge of the menu with staff not knowing which meal came with fries, and which didn't. (Our waiter handed me back the menu as he obviously couldn't be bothered to check himself ). Ironically, my friend ordered the same main as myself and she didn't get any fries at all.
Basic school boy errors of no salt and pepper at the table (even that's fine – it happens) but when you ask for some, you don't expect to be given an empty salt grinder (which was perspex so obvious there was nothing inside).
The absolute nail in the coffin was being served raw prawns (with the mixed grill..and yes, we took pictures in pure disbelief) , only to be told that ‘the chef says they are supposed to be like that’.
When asked to see the manager, he decided that his paying customers weren't important enough to attend to so only graced us with his presence after making us wait 25 minutes. Quite frankly his attitude was dismissive, rude and he showed no interest in the feedback that should have been passed straight back to the chef.
The fact that we had pre paid the meal (with an offer), this so called ‘manager’ made it quite clear that he was not interested in making any attempt to improve our evening. Infact, he told us he had other business to attend to and that he could not help us, then just walked off.
Needless to say we left hungry, forfeiting our dessert . We did have a good bottle of wine though .. the only thing the chef couldn't ruin.
Summary – Coquine: Unprofessional, rude and should be advertised with a big health warning.

We, a party of 6, who eat out regularly, had the worst restaurant experience at Coquine!
First, they mucked up our booking, it took us 4 long phone calls speaking to various people to get the booking we originally asked for!  We had to be sat at a small crammed table which should sit 4 people instead of 6.
Starters were inconsistent – 4 of us had the Calamari Fritti and 2 of us had the Prawn Fritti. The garnish was different on each plate and everything was served with the same tahini dip even though the menu stated otherwise. We asked the waiter about this and he actually had to bring the menu to us and have us, the customers, read the menu to him.
The main course of Mixed Grill was ordered by two of us. Both plates had uncooked prawns which were still transparent and frozen in the middle. We told the staff of this and they returned to us with a message from the chef “the prawns are meant to be that way, they're cooked”. This is ridiculous and a serious health worry.
We then asked to see the manager. We waited ten minutes and the manager had still not arrived. We asked to see the manager a second time. He failed to appear, it was only when we went to use the restroom that we saw him downstairs and asked if he was the manager. He claimed he did not know that customers were asking to see him. This is unacceptable but by now we did not care. We had finally got hold of the manager after a 25 minute wait. However, the manager was very unpleasant and unapologetic. He continuously made excuses for the poor service and uncooked food. And eventually, he left us without rectifying any of the problem. We left without finishing the main course and without ordering desserts, which we paid for already on Groupon!

Me and my girlfriend went to Coquine for Brunch last week and we both feel the same way.
We had a tremendous time at Coquine, food was brilliant and the service was really good…
What i really enjoyed was the fruit smoothies to be quite frankly i hadn't had a smoothie like that for a long time, my girlfriend ordered full English and I an Omelette, they were both worth the money…

I have actually made dinner reservation for this friday and I am looking forward to it…
