A pub for the 21st century, Citizen Smith seems more interested in its liquid assets than in winning medals for food. Like its stablemate, the incredibly groovy Lost Society, this newer venture (opened 2010) has an attractive quirkiness that sets it apart from most south London watering holes. Beer drinkers are likely to find at least something they haven’t encountered before (draught Low Rider lager from Belgium, say, or local Meantime Stout; cocktail drinkers, too, find themselves spoilt for choice. Food is certainly up to standard, but breaks away from the gastrodrudgery norm; the kitchen sticks to pizzas, burgers & nachos, with nary a pork belly in sight. Expect your visit to be accompanied by an upbeat soundtrack: live on Fridays & Saturdays, when doormen & door policies come into play.
