On the corner of tattered Chapel Market, Round Midnight certainly looks the part – a dusty dive serving up toe-tappin’ jazz & blues. Inside, Jimi Hendrix is one of the guitar heroes looming over the small room (with its scattering of tables & compact corner stage) from a mural. Drinks include Guinness & Grolsch plus workaday wines from £11 a bottle. No food is served, but the congenial staff are happy for you to bring in a takeaway – as long as hands are the only eating implements required. But music is the reason for coming, & you can catch a gig for free almost every night of the week: from performances by established acts such as Earl Green & The Right Time, to the Tuesday blues jam where eager musos can turn up, sign up & sing out.
