Two years down the line from turning gastro, The Pear Tree has fully transformed from a spit-&-sawdust live-sport den into a charming foodie local. The bijou interior is the perfect spot for hunkering down of a chilly evening, with tartan throws & an open fire making for a super-cosy atmosphere. The menu is chalked up on the blackboard each day, & the seasonal fare shows a tad more imagination than might be expected – given the out-of-the-way location. Gravadlax with quail’s egg & beetroot salad makes an appetising starter, ahead of pork tenderloin with polenta, potato fondant & wild mushrooms, while butterscotch crème brûlée with marinated Victoria plums should round things off sweetly. To cap it all, there’s a pithy little wine list, a solid selection of beers & a pleasant terrace for relaxation on warm days.
