Not to be confused with Jason Atherton’s Pollen Street Social directly opposite, this standalone Italian comes courtesy of the brains behind the nearby Maddox Club. Readers appreciate the vibrant David Hume artwork and alluring art deco touches in the cool dining room, although some reckon that more attention needs to be paid to detailing when it comes to the food. The kitchen procures ingredients from the homeland and the menu bristles with regional ideas, from burrata d’Andria with Sicilian caponata to sea bass baked in sea salt with fennel. Pasta gets a good airing (try pappardelle with lamb ragù or buttery beetroot and ricotta ravioli sprinkled with poppy seeds), while puds provide the odd spark of interest in the shape of, say, chestnut cannoli with ‘queen apple’. Young, animated staff are a bonus.
