Don’t be put off by the naked woman strutting her stuff above your table, those 80s’ retro prints are all part of Bistro K’s offbeat take on the diehard French brasserie. Dark wooden floors, glass tables & white chairs add to the contemporary look, while outdoor seating makes it a nice place to watch the South Ken set go by. Despite the stylish interior, Bistro K’s menu seldom strays far from the middle ground: confit rabbit leg with choucroute & a £25 fillet steak with frites & béarnaise fly the flag for tradition, while white onion velouté with a frog’s leg Kiev (how do they get the butter in?) adds an up-to-date twist. Prices are very reasonable for the area, & the three-course lunch menu (£15) offers particularly good value.
