Square Meal Review of The Prince Albert ?

Geronimo Inns – now part of the Young’s stable – owns the Prince Albert, & you’ll soon notice all the hallmarks of the brand: artfully mismatched chairs & tables, comfortable shabby-chic sofas, & a Farrow & Ball-like colour scheme. The look may be uniform, but it works; this is a comfortable place to spend time with friends. You’ll also get a good choice of drinks, either from the fairly priced wine list or the interesting selection of draught beers. Food consists of traditional pub grub, usually done well: the likes of mussels with cider & bacon, salmon with hollandaise or Cumberland sausage & mash. Staff are cheerful & helpful, but on warm days when the pub & garden are packed, cracks can start to appear, both in the service & the kitchen.

Filled with the Chelsea set walking pooches, yummy mummies, slummy mummies and all sorts of sporty types, this much loved boozer on the edge of Battersea Park gets absolutely rammed at weekends as its location and cosy atmosphere make it the perfect post-walk brunch/lunch venue. Solid gastropub fare (I've just had a lovely bit of gammon with duck egg and chips, my boyfriend scoffed the burger) as you'd expect. My one gripe is service: there are huge numbers of staff involved in serving up food and only one poor chap defending the bar so be prepared for a frustrating wait for a glass of wine and to put your food order in. Still, the friendly clientele (yes, strangers actually talk to each other here!) ensure there's no barging at the bar and once you've ordered, food service is relatively swift. Great place to bring country-dwelling parents to show them London can be civilised.
