The art-stuffed Arch London hotel seems to have as many different bar rooms & restaurants as it does guests, helping Hunter 486 to win a portfolio of fans without compromising its essential – & slightly self-conscious – hipness. The bijou Salon de Champagne displays tasting notes on the ceiling (‘brioche aromas’ etc), the Martini Library has coffee-table books & a service call button, & the bar proper is pure Mad Men. Champagnes & premium spirits supplement a stylish if not hugely extensive list that might include the likes of sloe gin fizz, pisco sour & mai tai. The restaurant – a neutral take on a diner with pots & pans hanging from the ceiling – serves likeable international dishes made from good-quality raw materials (rack of salt-marsh lamb with boulangère potatoes & tarragon salsa, for example).
