With so many coffee bars in London, it would be easy to dismiss this British Library outpost of the Peyton & Byrne bakery empire were it not for its signature ‘churros y chocolate’ – a set of just-cooked South American doughnut fingers served alongside thick, gloopy hot chocolate (dunking optional). Teething problems relating to the smell of the cooking oil have been resolved, & the aroma in the bar is now a tantalising cocktail of sweet cinnamon, chocolate & freshly roasted coffee. There’s also a range of teas, plus good-quality cakes & sandwiches, while the addition of a few seats – both inside & out – makes this the perfect spot for a study break.
