Tart by name, tart by nature? This Farringdon bar & restaurant certainly flaunts itself to a moneyed clientele, but its name more likely derives from the ladies of the night who once haunted this particular neighbourhood. Inside, it’s a mishmash of funky themes – dark walls, leather banquettes & Georgian busts share the space with bright sofas, Formica tables & floral chairs. But the whole operation has a gleeful spirit that spills over into the food & drink. Whet your appetite with a Bakewell tartini (a cocktail of Amaretto, Advocaat, double cream & raspberry purée), before sharing some mezze – perhaps chorizo al vino served with bread, marinated pork belly, grilled tiger prawns or stuffed jalapeños with cream cheese. There’s a set menu for those after a more structured meal, but don’t expect anything too serious here – this Tart is out for some fun.
