‘A great little bar’ that knows how to deliver the goods, Tart probably takes its name from the ladies of the night who once worked these streets – rather than any sort of innocent baked dish. Camp furnishings & louche artwork set an appropriately irreverent tone – although the rather decorous back room was actually a 17th-century vestry, complete with an original stained-glass dome. Tart touts a no-frills menu of burgers, skewers, platters & nibbles, but most people are here for liquid satisfaction. Check out the list of ‘tartinis’ (decadent dessert/cocktail hybrids), which features the likes of Turkish delight (vanilla vodka, crème de cacao & rose-petal conserve with a dark chocolate rim). Turn up before 7pm if you fancy taking advantage of penny-saving 2-for-1 offers.
