Al Borgo Ristorante

A truly local restaurant with it's own quirks and charms, whilst the restaurant has not been super busy on either of our trips the enjoyment of the meal has not been diminished. The food variety and quality is superb and the wine selection and recommendation of the highest of quality. With so many restaurants falling back on a formulaic approach to their offering Al Borgo knows what it is and is happy in it's own skin…something that should be applauded especially given the current economic climate where it would be all to easy to succumb to a quick fix high street approach. This is a truly local restaurant and deserves to flourish, the hosts are welcoming and honest in their approach, and the value for money is excellent given the quality of both the food and beverages on offer. We will be back again, both for a more ‘grown up’ meal as a couple, as well as a family with our 2 children (5 & 3). Highly recommended on a number of levels.

My partner and I visited al borgo on a Friday night, it was pretty empty for 8pm, and we were maybe the 3rd table seated. The whole evening was poor to say the least, by the end of it we left feeling disappointed and ripped off, we will not be returning and we will not be recommending.

My complaints are –

when seating, the menu was almost waved in my face as the waiter stood near by, not allowing us to get settled

we asked for disarono, we were given amerto

My partner ask for no ice in her drink after the waitress asked if she wanted ice or not and the drink arrived, with ice!

While my steak was cooked how I liked it, it did take 30 mins to arrive and my girlfriends chicken was dry and tasteless

We also waited 30 mins for the bill

The bill was another issue, we were charged an automatic service fee, I am of the opinion that this is at our discretion not theirs and the mark up on the drink was shocking. 4 single glasses liquor at a cost of 24 pounds

At the prices they are charging I feel service of this kind is totally unacceptable, just because your in Teddington doesn’t mean you can over charge! There is an Italian in Hampton hill that is much better in service, food and cost!

Celebrated my birthday with friends – this was our first dinner there; we will all definitely be going back. Elegant without being stuffy – perfect Italian-style white table cloths, welcoming hosts

Authentic, quality food.
Considering there are so in many Italian restaurants in London, the menu had virtually all new dishes for me. The proprietor (Marco) suggested our wine: delicious yet reasonably priced! As it was a special occasion, the five of us had 2 high-end courses, a couple of desserts, three bottles of wine and coffees – £41 per head. For less extravagant nights there was enough on the menu for a lovely dinner with wine and coffee for half that. e.g. pastas – by the way – the portions are generous.

• only reason I marked 9 rather than 10 for atmosphere is that being early in the week, the restaurant was half filled. Walking past at the end of the week and weekends, I've seen it to bursting – so I imagine it's best to pick the day that gives the type of atmosphere you prefer: elegance or vibrant Italian energy .
