Everything feels right on the money at The Orange, from the shabby-chic, distressed interiors to the bubbly ‘accommodating' staff and all-embracing menu. Home-baked breads with herb mascarpone and olive oil are a must, likewise the home-smoked salmon with pickled ‘rainbow' carrots and a crispy egg. After that, try one of the wood-fired pizzas (choose from a wheat or spelt base) – although wild boar with chorizo, and dry-aged rib-eye with hand-cut chips, have also had readers drooling. Spread over four floors, this ‘all occasions' venue boasts boutique bedrooms, dedicated private areas and a ground-floor bar where cocktails, draught beers and a classic Francophile wine list dominate. Summery days see Pimlico's designer-clad contessas sipping spritzers outside, locals love the place whatever the season, and it's also a perfect package for savvy travellers.
