Square Meal review of Old Red Cow: ? Write your review

Please don’t call the Old Red Cow a gastropub; the owner is adamant this is an old-fashioned drinkers’ den – even if it does a nice line in food. Previously a nondescript watering hole that had stood empty for years, the building was given a new lease of life at the end of 2008 with a tasteful refurb that updated its style but left plenty of Victorian character intact. The tiny rooms (on two floors) are cluttered with worn Persian rugs, vintage chandeliers & even an upright piano (which is played every other Wednesday). The pub sports one of the smallest bars in London, where friendly staff dispense pints of Timothy Taylor Landlord & Deuchars, alongside a wine list that will please fans of rosé. Food is seasonal, British & attractively priced; slow-roasted duck & beetroot pie, & Gloucester Old Spot pork belly both cost under £10.
