Finding a pint-sized, sparkling fresh ‘sushi island’ among the sea of Indian sweet centres, bhel-poori houses & grocers on Drummond Street is quite a shock, but this nine-seater joint continues to thrill. A long list of precisely seasoned nigiri spans everything from star turns such as scallop topped with a dollop of truffle paste & ‘melting’ yellowtail through to razor clam & aji (horse mackerel), while equally popular maki rolls could include salmon with tiny shreds of shiso leaf as well as ebi-fry (tempura prawn). Elsewhere, there are seven kinds of sashimi & four donburi rice bowls, plus the obligatory edamame, miso soup & a handful of traditional desserts (red-bean rice cake, say) – all served by sweet-natured staff. Takeaways ensure a busy daytime trade, but evenings are quieter.
