Lordship Lane is curiously short of independent cafés where you can enjoy proper coffee & a slice of cake, or linger over a freshly prepared lunch – which makes Luca’s all the more welcome. Nearly all the food is made on site, or sourced from high-quality local suppliers. Eggs royale includes own-made hollandaise, muffins from Luca’s West Dulwich bakery, & smoked salmon from Moxon’s the fishmonger’s a few doors down; the excellent sausage rolls are also made here. Table service can be slow, especially in the small back garden, so it’s tempting to visit the counter to get someone’s attention – & gaze at the day’s cakes. The cinnamon buns are what elevenses were made for. Dunk them in a flat white, made with coffee roasted at West Norwood’s Volcano Coffee Works.
