The silver & black suits of Fleet Street’s upper echelons blend seamlessly with the art deco, monochrome interior of Lutyens bar. Owned by Sir Terence Conran & housed in the former Reuters building, the feel is 1930s’ Paris – with 21st-century London prices. It opens early for power breakfasts, but later on you can share a punch bowl named after one-time local Samuel Pepys (Hendrick’s gin, Somerset cider brandy, raspberry, elderflower, cucumber & ginger ale). Fine wines are served by the glass or – in civilised French fashion – by the 500ml pot lyonnais. At lunchtime you can graze on charcuterie or ‘petits plateaux’ of fruits de mer; otherwise, order more substantial dishes from the main Lutyens kitchen.
